Magistrate

Michelle Trapp speaks with Civic Fellows.

Michelle Elizabeth Trapp is a trained Attorney-at-Law who received her Bachelors of Laws Degree (LLB) at the University of Guyana in Georgetown Guyana in 2010 where she completed in the top 5 of her class and earned a distinction. She completed her Certificate of Legal Education at Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica in 2012 and also holds a master’s degree (LLM) in International Human Rights Law and Practice from the University of York in Yorkshire England.

Before pursuing law, Trapp managed a hair salon “Hair it is Beauty Salon” for seven years then taught at Sadie Vernon High School, Pallotti High School and later as administrative assistant in the Belize City Mayor’s Office  with Mayor Zenaida Moya.

After completing her law degree, she worked for four years at the Legal Advice and Services Center (Legal Aid) for four years as a crown counsel, working with people who come from vulnerable sectors in society in order to ensure they have access to justice through representation at the Magistrate, Family, Supreme Court as well as the Court of Appeal.

She was the observatory attorney at the Human Rights Commission where she worked for three months before taking up the post of Magistrate in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

Magistrate Trapp is also the founding member of “Justice for Humans-Belize” which is an organization that works to ensure access to justice for vulnerable groups. This work entails legal work that is done free of cost.

VP Consulting Inc and Twocanview are teaming up to present a dynamic nine-month civics series called “The Civic Fellowship Programme, Birth of a Citizen”.  

We will equip our Belizean youths known as Civic Fellows with lifelong learning skills and provide foundational knowledge from across the political ideological spectrum to foster critical thinking and dialogue and inspire a new generation of ethical nation builders.
